LEAGUES OVERVIEW

CTA coordinates league play throughout the year in the DC Metro area.  CTA leagues are organized into four seasons: Winter (Jan-May), Spring (Mar-May), Summer (May-Sept), and Fall (Sept-Dec).

PLAYER RATINGS

Leagues are open to players of ALL skills levels.  Prior to registering for league play, players must self-rate based on a personal assessment of their tennis experience and ability.  This allows league coordinators to assign new players to the appropriate court.  A CTA player can change his or her play level at any time.  For guidance on how to self-rate, click here.

As a reference point, USTA 2.5 is roughly equivalent to D, USTA 3.0 to C, USTA 3.5/4.0 to B, USTA 4.0/4.5 to A, and USTA 4.5/5.0+ to OPEN.

REGISTRATION

League registration opens about 6 weeks prior to the start of each season.  To register, you must have a valid CTA membership and can only register for yourself.  Visit here to purchase a CTA membership.

After registration closes, players are encouraged to visit their Stats and Schedule webpage during a roughly 2-week window to submit their preferred play dates in the leagues for which they registered.  The League Commissioner will attempt to honor as many play-date preferences as possible.

LEAGUE PLAY

CTA now offers a variety of multi-week play packages to try and closely meet member demand.  CTA provides tennis balls for each league match.  Unless otherwise noted, doubles leagues utilize a rotating three-set format where each player plays one set with the three other individuals assigned to his or her court that session.

Purchasing a spot(s) in a league is a commitment to show up to play on scheduled dates.  Players who are unable to play their regularly scheduled play date MUST find another CTA member (with a valid, current membership) to substitute.  No-shows are strongly discouraged and penalized.

PAYMENTS

CTA is a 501(c)(4) organization.  Any payments to CTA are not tax deductible, including membership, league, and other participation fees (e.g., drill sessions and tournaments).  CTA utilizes PayPal.
