DIVISION ASSIGNMENT

The Capital Classic XXIV tournament committee follows GLTA rules regarding divisions:

  • OPEN: Highly Advanced Tournament Player, approximately NTRP 4.5-5.0 and above
  • A: Advanced Tournament Player, approximately NTRP 4.0-4.5
  • B: Advanced Intermediate Player, approximately NTRP 3.5-4.0 rating
  • C: Low Intermediate Player, approximately NTRP 3.0 rating
  • D: NTRP 2.5 or below rating

SPLIT DIVISIONS

Split divisions are available for Cap Classic XXIV.  GLTA rules regarding the splitting of divisions will govern. No player may play down -- in any discipline -- more than one level from his or her highest ranking.  For example, a player who is rated as “Open” in doubles and “B” in singles cannot play below the “A” level in singles, even if the player is not registered to play in a doubles draw,  No player shall be allowed to play a lower division than that which he/she is listed under in the appropriate GLTA Seeding Point database.  This includes a right-handed player, who enters a tournament “left-handed” or any players who request an injury-related reduction in ranking.  A player with a current valid ranking by an ITF-affiliated national or regional tennis association may not play in a division lower than that ranking regardless of his or her GLTA ranking.

IF YOU ELECT TO SPLIT DIVISIONS FOR SINGLES AND DOUBLES, YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR OWN TRANSPORTATION BETWEEN TOURNAMENT VENUES (IF APPLICABLE).  THE TOURNAMENT COMMITTEE HAS NOT YET DETERMINED WHICH LEVELS WILL PLAY AT WHICH TOURNAMENT SITES ON SATURDAY.  IF YOU DO NOT HAVE RELIABLE TRANSPORTATION, WE SUGGEST YOU ELECT NOT TO SPLIT DIVISIONS.

In order to prevent "sandbagging," (i.e., playing at a level substantially below a player's actual skill level) the tournament director has absolute discretion in determining whether a player will be permitted to play at a certain level, even if you receive permission from the GLTA executive board to play at a certain level.

CONSOLATION

We offer singles consolation for first match losses. Some consolation matches may take place on Saturday, September 17, 2016. Please check with the tournament desk for scheduling.

Division eligibility and seeding are based primarily on the latest GLTA ranking information available. The tournament director has absolute discretion in determining division eligibility and tournament seeds. Special consideration may be given for historical or recent GLTA or USTA results.
